New hires

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, hired attorney Katherine McDonough as member of the firm’s litigation and trial group.

The Municipal Review Committee Inc. in Brewer hired Michael Carroll as executive director of the 115 Maine municipal member nonprofit organization. Carroll was previously branch manager for Fero Waste & Recycling, Ready John & Clean Earth, an environmental services group in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Diversified Communications, an international media company in Portland, hired Christopher Campbell as an attendee acquisition coordinator. Campbell was previously with Starbucks in Portland.

Sutherland Weston Marketing Communications in Bangor hired Sherado Sands as a graphic designer, Lisa Sturgeon as a senior account manager and Jen Snow as an account manager.

Clark Insurance in Portland hired Heather Brooks as an associate account manager in its business insurance department and Cody Lightfoot as an account analyst and Jacob Tidd as an account manager in its personal insurance department.

Sevee & Maher Engineers in Cumberland hired Ben Monohon and Jenna Gilbert as civil engineers. Monohon has 13 years of experience as a project manager and field engineer while Gilbert is a 2019 graduate of the University of Maine in Orono.

F.O. Bailey Real Estate in Falmouth hired Adrienne Bennett as a realtor specializing in residential real estate sales and Dale Holman as a broker specializing in commercial, investment and residential clients.

Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, a luxury property company in Portland, hired Beth Taylor as an assistant vice president, specializing in the Casco Bay area and Greater Portland communities.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland hired Nick Guerrette as an associate broker in its Falmouth office.

DFD Russell Medical Centers in Monmouth hired Meg Hutchins as a licensed clinical social worker.

The Maine Aquaculture Association in Hallowell hired Afton Hupper as outreach and development specialist. Hupper is a recent graduate of the University of Maine.

The Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth hired Leslie Clague as program associate in its Portland office. Clague was previously administrative coordinator/human resources generalist at North Side Housing and Supportive Services in Chicago.

Promotions

Gorham Savings Bank promoted Rebecca Winslow to senior vice president, director of community relations and Diana Wheelock to senior vice president, director of human resources and organizational development. Winslow was previously senior vice president, director of retail delivery while Wheelock was vice president, director of human resources.

FHC Inc., a Bowdoin-based manufacturer of products for the neuroscience industry, promoted Melanie Cooper to corporate vice president and member of its board of directors. Cooper was previously human resources manager.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, promoted Caitlin Haley to billing specialist and Sam Stewart to key customer specialist. Haley was previously an order verifier while Stewart was a customer relations specialist in Total Care.

Educate Maine promoted Jason Judd to executive director. Judd joined the organization in 2016 as Project Login program director and most recently served as deputy executive director.

LongHorn Steakhouse in South Portland promoted Rachel Cohen to managing partner. Cohen, who has 13 years of restaurant experience, was previously a server.

Appointments

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association in Portland announced its 2019-20 slate of officers including Bruce Jones, Creative Office Pavilion, and Josh Fifield, Clark Insurance, serving as vice presidents; Mark Stasium, Camden National Bank, treasurer; and Bill Shanahan, Northern New England Housing Investment Fund, assistant treasurer.

The National Association of Secretaries of State elected Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap as its Eastern Region vice president, to serve a one-year term through July 2020. Dunlap previously served on the association’s executive board as president, treasurer and most recently as the administrative codes and registers member-at-large.

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay elected Bill Burgess as chair of its board of trustees, effective Oct. 3, 2019. Burgess is a general partner at North Bridge Venture Partners. The organization also said Tom Allen, Priscilla Brooks and Marion Howard will join the board of trustees in October, Marion Flores will begin serving as treasurer and Kimberly Hamilton and Maureen Stancik Boyce will join the advisory board.

Achievements

Giving Strong, a social impact consulting firm in Portland, said that Christen Graham, president, earned an Angel Investing certificate from Maine Women for Women and The Northern New England Women’s Investor Network. The certificate helps the organization strengthens its range of social impact consulting services, helping institutional and individual clients consider a full range of options to make real social change.

The 22nd Annual Maine International Film Festival in Waterville honored Hilary Brougher with a “Mid-Life Achievement Award.” Brougher is a director and screenwriter and chair of the Film Department at Columbia University.

Janet Edmunson, founder of JME Insights in South Portland, was named the “2019 Life Service Award” winner by The ESOP Association. The award honors individuals who’ve made a significant, long-term contribution to employee ownership and the ESOP community.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, announced that attorney Jordan Payne completed the Maine State Bar Association’s Leadership Academy, the mission of which is to promote and encourage leadership and professionalism while building camaraderie.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough said it was presented with the “Community Partner Award” at the 44th Preble Street Annual Celebration. The award recognizes the hospice for its work to provide choice, power, dignity and respect to tenants in Preble Street Housing First programs in their end-of-life care.

Andrew Silsby, president and CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank in Augusta, published an article that appeared in the CommunityVoice section of Forbes.com. It addresses the important relationship between community banks and small businesses, American culture and the economic vitality of main streets across the country.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington said that Jessaka Nichols achieved specialty certification in hand therapy by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission. Nichols, an occupational therapist, joins 24 other therapists in the state of Maine who have achieved the status.
