NextEra to sell Me. oil-fired power plants

NextEra Energy Resources will sell its oil-fired power plants in Maine, which have a power-generation capacity of 796 megawatts.

In its first quarter earnings report, the subsidiary of Juno Beach, Fla.-based NextEra Energy Inc. said it plans to sell those plants to reduce exposure to merchant pricing. On those assets, the company reported that it recognized a charge of $41 million during the quarter.

The Bangor Daily News reported the Maine plants to be sold include NextEra's stake in a 822-megawatt plant on Cousins Island in Yarmouth and the 18-megawatt Cape Gas Turbine in South Portland.

The company in March also sold off 351 megawatts of hydropower generation in Maine and New Hampshire to a unit of Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP.
