Northern Light Health, the state’s second-largest health care system and the parent organization of Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, has named a new president and CEO.
Tim Dentry, currently chief operating officer and senior vice president at Brewer-based Northern Light, will succeed Michelle Hood on April 1, according to a news release Wednesday. Hood announced in November that she was resigning “in the new year” to become executive vice president and chief operating officer of the American Hospital Association.
Dentry was chosen in a weeks-long national search by the Northern Light board.
“We found that we have the right candidate at the right time, right here at home,” Chairman Barry McCrum said in the release. “Tim’s experience, passion for quality and a culture of caring, and dedication to Maine and Northern Light Health made him the outstanding choice as the system’s next leader.”
Dentry has over 30 years of health care management experience Since 2016, he has served as COO, responsible for administration, evaluation and coordination of the system and its member organizations.
In addition to EMMC, Northern Light comprises nine other hospitals, including newly merged Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft; eight nursing homes, 37 primary care sites, and a variety of health care services throughout Maine. The system employs more than 12,000 people.
Prior to joining Northern Light, Dentry was CEO of Tawam Hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International. He also has served as executive vice president for Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore.
He holds both an MBA and an undergraduate degree from Loyola University in Maryland.
Dentry commented: “What makes this system outstanding is its people, and we have some of the best. Never has that been more visible than during this trying time … I thank the board for this opportunity and look forward to working with my colleagues to continue the advancement of Northern Light Health.”
