Brewer construction manager Nickerson & O’Day Inc. is coming down the home stretch on construction of an $8 million Penobscot Nation Community Center in Penobscot County.

The center is at 12 Wabanaki Way on Indian Island.

A topping-off ceremony on April 16 was to include community members from the Penobscot Nation, with hardhats provided as keepsakes.

Visitors also had the opportunity to sign the last two sheets of plywood roof sheathing to be hoisted to the roof and fastened into place, topping off the roof system.

The project broke ground in August 2023 and is expected to open in October.

The facility is considered integral for the Penobscot Nation community.
