Pike scores I-95 exit project with $9.58M bid

Pike Industries has won a multi-million project to revamp Interstate 95's exit 113 in Augusta.

The Morning Sentinel reported that the project will allow motorists to enter and leave the highway from all directions at the exit connecting to Route 3 in the capital.

With a low bid of $9.58 million, Pike beat out competitors that include Stillwater-based Sargent Corp., which bid $9.94 million; Turner-based K & K Excavation Inc., which bid $10.58 million; and Gorham-based R.J. Grondin & Sons, which bid $10.61 million.

The project, designed to improve access to MaineGeneral's new hospital under construction nearby and the adjacent Alfond Center for Cancer Care, will include two new traffic circles.

The project is expected to be complete by November.
