Public meetings set on offshore wind power

The state next month is holding five public information meetings on the development of offshore wind energy in Maine.

The Maine Department of Conservation and the Maine State Planning Office yesterday announced the meetings along Maine's coast that will allow the public "to hear from key stakeholders about possible sites to demonstrate new technologies for deepwater, offshore wind energy," according to a press release from the two agencies. The meetings will happen in Ellsworth, Wiscasset, Machias, Wells and Rockport.

The Legislature in June passed mandates that the Department of Conservation and State Planning Office identify between one and five demonstration sites in Maine waters where offshore wind technology can be tested.
