Rockland art gallery proposes 5-story building

The owner of Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland is proposing to build a $3 million, five-story building in downtown that would allow the art gallery to expand its business.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Jacob Dowling's proposal, which is expected to go in front of city planners next month, would include retail operations on the building's first floor and high-end storage for art collectors in its upper floors.

Dowling owns the proposed site, now a parking lot, which is behind the gallery's Main Street building. If approved, work on the project would begin in March 2016, with an estimated March 2017 completion date.
