Scarborough-based New England Cancer Specialists names new CEO

New England Cancer Specialists, a Scarborough-based medical oncology practice, has named a health care executive with over 30 years’ experience as CEO.

Edwin T. Graham began his leadership role at the NECS last week, joining Dr. Chiara Battelli, president of the multisite practice. The CEO role had been vacant for several years, a spokesman said.

Previously, Graham served as regional vice president of OneOncology, in Nashville, Tenn. His prior roles include executive director of New York Oncology Hematology and the U.S. Oncology Network, in Albany, N.Y. Graham also has worked for health care providers, in health care advocacy, and with health insurer Kaiser Permanente.

Graham holds a master’s degree in health care delivery science from Dartmouth College. He has served as a board member of the Community Oncology Alliance, a national nonprofit that advocates for oncology practices and their patients. In addition, he was appointed by the governor of New York to serve on the state’s Hospital Review and Planning Council.

Beyond his professional experiences, Graham enjoys cycling, spending time with his family, and the performing arts. He is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild — and has been part of productions ranging from the TV show “Billions” to the movie “The Horse Whisperer.”

Graham says he is honored and humbled to join the practice.

“Cancer touches us all and requires a highly organized team of dedicated physicians, medical professionals and staff to respond to and treat each patient with individual care,” he said. "I am excited to join and work with this talented and compassionate team.”

New England Cancer Specialists is a 13-physician oncology and hematology practice that earlier this year became the first affiliate of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. In addition to its headquarters, clinic and imaging center in Scarborough, NECS has offices in Kennebunk, Topsham and Portsmouth, N.H.

The practice plans to move its primary location to 40,000 square feet of space on the six-acre medical campus under development at Rock Row in Westbrook. As it has attracted new patients, NECS has simply outgrown its Scarborough location, a spokeswoman told Mainebiz last year.

NECS expanded to Central Maine Healthcare's Topsham Care Center in 2018 and added the Portsmouth clinic in 2020.
