Seminary campus eyed for service center

A nonprofit health care organization is looking to turn the former Bangor Theological Seminary Campus into a community service center.

Penobscot Community Health Care on Thursday unveiled its plan to redevelop the 9.25-acre campus in Bangor into the Joshua Chamberlain Campus for Community Service, using a portion of it for health care and social services, according to the Associated Press. The remaining part would be available to other nonprofits for other purposes, such as apartments for low-income seniors and medical students.

The health care organization's board authorized a purchase and sale agreement for the campus in January, but the actual price is still being negotiated. The property was sold last August to Seminary Redevelopment LLC for $1.65 million, which has been renting residential and commercial space on the campus, the AP reported.
