Study says Maine taxes burden business
Maine is sixth to last in a new ranking of states with the most business-friendly tax policies.
The report, released yesterday by the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council in Oakton, Va., considered 16 factors to create its 2008 Business Tax Index, including states' taxes on corporate income, property, gross receipts and gas.
Maine was 46th overall, while South Dakota ranked first.
