Tall Timbers Trust purchases 290,000 acres of Northern Maine forest

Over 290,000 acres of Aroostook, Penobscot and Piscataquis county forestland has been sold by Canopy Timberlands LLC to Tall Timbers Trust in a private transaction for an undisclosed amount.

Forestry consultant Gary Bahlkow told the Bangor Daily News that the owners of Tall Timbers Trust want to fly under-the-radar during a “routine timberland investment transaction,” declining to provide information on the company’s owners or its other Maine land holdings.

According to the BDN, all 290,000 acres of the forestland is within the unorganized territories and the North Maine Woods. Part of the land north of the Baxter Unit, a section of land that begins less than 10 miles north of the Baxter State Park boundary, is over 20 miles from the newly-established Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, the BDN reported.
