Tourism boosts revenues for Hancock County

The tourism industry in Hancock County, the home of Acadia National Park, saw strong gains over last year during the third quarter of 2015.

The Ellsworth American reported that the county’s inns, motels and hotels saw an 8.7% revenue increase between July and September compared to the same time last year, increasing from $75.2 million to $81.8 million.

Restaurant sales in Hancock County also increased 5.7% in the third quarter compared to last year, according to taxable sales figures from the Maine Bureau of Taxation.

However, the county’s taxable sales for business operations dropped 9.5% year-over-year for the third quarter, a result of Verso Corp. closing its paper mill in Bucksport, the Ellsworth American reported.
