Turnpike toll hike increases revenue 16%

Toll increases have boosted the Maine Turnpike Authority's revenues by 16% in the past six months despite a 4% drop in traffic.

The Kennebec Journal reported that while toll increases approved in October for certain toll booths have brought in more revenue, new discounts for regular users and decreasing traffic at some tolls have cut into the MTA's revenues.

From November 2012 to April 2013, the paper reported the turnpike took in $51.7 million, $7.2 million more than the same period a year earlier.
