Two health centers share $1M in federal grants

Two community health centers, in Patten and Bangor, will share $990,000 in federal grants to treat more patients.

The Associated Press reported the Katahdin Valley Health Center in Patten will receive around $300,000 and the Penobscot Community Health Center in Bangor will get nearly $700,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to create new full-time service delivery sites. DHHS estimates the new centers will help serve an additional 4,410 patients.

The grants are part of $1.5 billion being awarded to 236 health centers in the country as part of the Affordable Care Act.
