Jeremy Barron will be the new entrepreneur-in-residence at Dirigo Labs in Waterville.

Jeremy Barron, an alumnus and former adjunct professor of Colby College, has been contracted to join Dirigo Labs from late December through April 2023, according to Susan Ruhlin, managing director of Dirigo Labs.

"He'll advise the staff prior to the launch of our next cohort on matters of curriculum and cohort selection, and coach the participating entrepreneurs for the duration of the three-month accelerator," Ruhlin told Mainebiz. "At the conclusion of the cohort, he may help with quality assurance" via surveys and exit interviews."

"We expect to renew the contract with a similar arrangement the following year," she noted.

Including Barron, Dirigo Labs employs a staff of four.

Barron's entrepreneurial experience includes co-founding and serving as chief customer officer at 3Play Media, a Boston-based speech technology and video accessibility company he launched while attending MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

Before starting his company, Barron worked as a senior analyst for Green Manning & Bunch, a Denver-based middle-market investment bank. More recently, he taught entrepreneurship at Colby.

“As a Colby College class of 2000 graduate, Waterville and the surrounding communities were integral to my personal growth and development, as well as my eventual success as an entrepreneur,” Barron said in a news release. “I am thrilled to see how much progress is being made to advance entrepreneurship and innovation in central Maine. Dirigo Labs' passionate team and broad vision for spurring economic development is evident in the work they do promoting growth-stage ventures.”

Dirigo Labs, located at the Hathaway Creative Center in downtown Waterville, is accepting applications for its next cohort. The term is set to start in late January and wrap up with a business-pitch event in May.

Brunswick-based rocket company bluShift Aerospace won Dirigo Labs' inaugural pitch event in June, for which it received $25,000 in prize money and a year's membership at the Bricks Coworking & Innovation Space in Waterville.
