Work starts at new ski academy center

Carrabassett Valley Academy, a ski school in western Maine, broke ground Friday on its new, $2.5 million academic center, part of its $7 million New Campus fundraising campaign.

The 17,000-square-foot center will include two science labs, art and music space and 14 classrooms, according to a press release. It will also house administrative facilities and art and music space. It will be completed within one year. The center marks the second phase of the academy's work to build a new campus, a project launched last October.

The academy has among its alumni top skiers Bode Miller, Seth Westcott and Kirsten Clark.
