Mainers — and residents of all states except Arizona and Hawaii, which don't observe daylight saving time — will get an extra hour of sleep when the timekeeping standard ends this Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 a.m.

In recent years, lawmakers including the Maine Legislature have considered making DST permanent. Advocates on both sides of the idea have made strong cases, citing effects of the clock changes on human health, traffic accidents, crime and more.

How do you feel about year-round daylight saving time, and "springing ahead" once and for all?

Would Mainers be better off if we didn't have to reset clocks twice a year because of daylight saving time?

The research is clear that twice a year (especially in the spring) there are significant health impacts to changing the time. In the days following, there are more ER admissions, heart attacks, vehicle collisions, sick days etc... Time to abandon it.

We would be better off if we STAYED on DST and even added another hour to it in May - July!!!

Maine has to be in the same time zone as the rest of the states in the EST time zone for business purposes. I agree daylight savings time is silly, it is like cutting the bottom off of a piece of paper and taping it to the top and thinking that you have a longer piece of paper...only the government could believe that would work!

Well what we say is all well and good but since our legislature hasn't been working for 7 plus months, what difference does it make?? Has anyone heard when they may get back to work and do what we elected them to do and deal with issues in Maine?? Wish I could have taken a 7 month paid vacation.
