IBEW Local 567 & 1253

IBEW Local 1253 and Local 567 are unions consisting of construction electricians, teledata technicians and apprentices throughout the state of Maine. Our signatory contractors perform industrial, commercial, residential (especially heat pumps) and large-scale solar projects. Our apprentices attend school for four-years, which is tuition free, for two nights a week. The only cost is books. Our contractors provide high wages, health insurance and two pensions. We are constantly looking for new journeyman and applicants for our apprenticeship.

Products: We provide licensed Master/Journeyman electricians, apprentices and teledata technicians for the construction industry, maintenance and capital projects in papermills and solar projects.

Markets/customers: Our contractors work in the commercial markets from small scale projects like an Aspen Dental to large scale projects like Maine General Hospital in Augusta and the Maine Medical Center expansion in Portland. Our contractors do small scale capital improvement projects in many mills up to a larger scale project like the paper machine rebuild at Sappi, Hinckley.

Career/job opportunities: The outlook for Locals 1253 and 567 is very good. From the new engineering building on the UMO campus to hundreds of megawatts of solar power that’s starting shortly in Maine.

Company Benefits: Local 1253 and Local 567 contractors provide health insurance and three pensions. Two are defined benefit plans and the other is an annuity.

Internship program: Locals 1253 and 567 have a four-year apprenticeship program that is free to the apprentices except the cost of books.

Community engagement: The IBEW is always on the look out for different organizations that need help. Our biggest engagement is providing voluntary electrical wiring for Habitat for Humanity.
