Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project

2024 Goals

This year, ILAP marks its 30th anniversary. For three decades, we have worked to build a world where systems are rooted in justice and where everyone belongs and thrives. And we know that when immigrants have the legal help they need, they can find safety, build economic security, and access opportunities that fulfill their dreams and potential, making Maine a better place for everyone.

With your support, ILAP will strengthen its core services, remain flexible to respond to the next unforeseen crisis, and move forward with new initiatives that advance our strategic goals. These initiatives include:

  • Expanding access to legal representation and assistance for people seeking asylum, children and youth, and survivors of domestic violence and labor trafficking.
  • Reaching more purposefully to all corners of Maine, from York to Aroostook counties.
  • Advocating for a more just and welcoming immigration system that strengthens families and communities.
  • Centering our work in equity and anti-racism and continuing to build a more inclusive organization.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

On Oct. 19 at Innovation Hall on the University of New England’s Portland campus, ILAP will mark our 30th anniversary with “Journey Toward Justice: Celebrating 30 Years.” More than 300 people are expected at this event and together we’ll connect with our history, recognize our shared accomplishments and commit to the journey ahead while we enjoy globally inspired food and a high-energy musical performance.

This year, we are also proud to be closing out our first ever “impact campaign” because people across Maine and beyond believe access to justice shouldn’t depend on where you were born or how much money you have.

We invite any businesses who would like to show their support for Maine’s immigrant communities to contact us about sponsorship and partnership opportunities throughout our 30th anniversary year!
