Amid culinary commotion in Portland, Pat's Pizza changes hands

Photo / William Hall Silly's restaurant in Portland will shut its doors Sunday, as Pat's Pizza, in the city's Old Port, gets a new owner.

Days after two longtime fixtures in Portland’s dining scene said they were permanently closing, another well-known eatery is changing hands.

Pat’s Pizza, a pizzeria at 30 Market St., announced Thursday in a Facebook post that a new owner will take over after closing time Sunday night.

Pat’s has been owned for 10 years by Chris Tyll, of Yarmouth. Attempts to reach him for comment were not immediately successful.

“We are excited to see what new ownership does with the next 10 years,” the Facebook post read.

Last Friday, Brian Boru Public House, at 57 Center St., said it was shutting its doors after 26 years in business. The last last call at the pub was 1 a.m Monday.

Previously, the owner of Silly’s, a funky, 31-year-old restaurant at 40 Washington Ave., said it will close Sunday.

"I am going to bow out gracefully of the new hipster artisan Washington Avenue that I really don’t fit into anymore," Colleen Kelley wrote on Facebook.

Another popular dining spot, Lolita, at 90 Congress St., is scheduled to close Monday. And a Monument Square bakery, Scattoloni, shut down in early August.

But amid all the exits in the city’s culinary industry, there's also an entrance: A new tea shop, Uncharted Tea, is under construction at 662 Congress St. in Longfellow Square. According to the shop’s website and social media, owners Michael Bowser and Emma Vonderheide plan to offer bubble tea, which is tea made with balls of tapioca and other flavoring. No opening date has been announced.
