Auburn-Lewiston airport expansion complete
A nearly $1 million expansion at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport officially opened its doors on Thursday.
The Sun Journal reported that the $925,000 expansion, which in adding 4,500 square feet doubles the size of the airport building, includes a baggage area and space for a new café.
In September 2011, the project received a $600,000 federal grant that was paired with matching funds from both towns to support the expansion.
In March 2011, the airport received a separate grant for $235,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration for an environmental study on the site and in July 2010 received $369,907 in July 2010 to extend its runway.
