BIW president announces retirement, new head named

File Photo / Tim Greenway Frederick J. Harris, the president of Bath Iron Works, has announced his retirement.

General Dynamics announced Monday that Frederick J. Harris, the president of Bath Iron Works for the past three years, will retire as the head of the shipyard and the San Diego-based General Dynamics NASSCO.

Dirk A. Lesko, who has worked at BIW for 26 years, including a stint as vice president of surface combatants and managing all programs, has been elected as a vice president of the corporation and appointed president of General Dynamics BIW.

Kevin M. Graney has been elected a vice president of the corporation and appointed as president of General Dynamics NASSCO, according to a news release.

“Dirk and Kevin are seasoned leaders with proven track records of managing complex shipbuilding projects and driving continuous improvement at every level of their business,” John P. Casey, executive vice president, marine systems, said in a statement. “Both have worked for General Dynamics for more than 20 years and they have the right management and operations experience to ensure these shipyards are positioned for the future.”

These appointments are effective Jan. 1, 2017, following the retirement of Harris.
