Boot orders spur hires

Outdoor gear retailer L.L.Bean is adding 125 jobs to keep pace with increasing orders for its iconic hunting boot.

The boot, introduced in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean himself, is enjoying a popularity surge on college campuses, according to The Associated Press. Sales of the boot have increased from 150,000 pairs four years ago to about 400,000 this year, and demand is expected to reach 500,000 next year, according to an L.L.Bean manufacturing manager.

The boots, manufactured in Brunswick, will be available in bright blue and pink leather this spring.
