Mainebiz will kick off a busy year of 2020 events next week with the annual Five on the Future forum Jan. 7 in Portland, featuring Jeff Fuhrer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Fuhrer, executive vice president and senior policy adviser at the Boston Fed, draws a big crowd every year with his insightful analysis and engaging delivery. The event will be held at Portland's Holiday Inn By the Bay.

Fuhrer will give the keynote speech and lead a panel discussion on Maine's economic opportunities and challenges with Heather Johnson, Maine's Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development: Justin Lamontagne of NAI The Dunham Group; Mexicali Blues CEO Topher Mallory; and Deirdre Wadsworth, president of Hardypond Construction and a 2017 Mainebiz Woman to Watch.

On the Road stops in 2020

As always, Mainebiz will start its On the Road series in Portland, at Ocean Gateway on March 12.

In each On the Road location, the Mainebiz editorial staff sits down with local business and nonprofit leaders in a private roundtable before an evening reception that’s open to all.

Stops in 2020 are planned in Saco/Biddeford in April, Damariscotta in May, Presque Isle in June, Dover-Foxcroft in September and Machias in October.

Please check the online Mainebiz Events Calendar regularly for dates and venues.

Business Leaders of the Year

Mark your calendars for the Business Leaders of the Year reception on April 28 at the Portland Country Club in Falmouth, where Mainebiz will honor the 2020 winners of this prestigious award along with past recipients going back two decades.

To mark the anniversary, Mainebiz will publish a special "alumni" magazine inside the March 23 issue, profiling the 2020 honorees.

Online nominations are already open, so please submit a form today for someone you think is worthy of the honor in the coming year.

Nominations may be submitted for leaders in the categories of large company (more than 50 employees), entrepreneur/small company and nonprofit organization, related to a significant accomplishment or milestone achieved in 2019.
