Call center chooses Pittsfield

After a nationwide search, a Virginia-based telemarketing firm has chosen Pittsfield as the site for a call center that could employ up to 200 people, according to a press release from Senator Susan Collins' office.

Global Contact Services has been working with Pittsfield, one of three finalists in a nationwide search, and state officials for about a year on the prospective call center. Company officials said they were attracted to Pittsfield because of the vacant call center that was home to ICT Group until 2003, but that any deal was contingent on workforce availability. A job fair held Jan. 17 and 18 in Pittsfield, which attracted more than 300 qualified applicants, apparently sealed the deal.

GCS provides telephone communications services to major national corporations in the fields of insurance, financial, telecom and politics.
