Chinese banks show interest in Maine exports

A top Chinese diplomat and representatives from several Chinese financial institutions attended the Maine International Trade Center’s annual conference Thursday.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Zhang Qiyue, China’s consul general in New York, told conference attendees that there is growing opportunity for Maine exports as China’s middle class continues to increase. Lobster sales, in particular, have been strong in China, with Maine having exported $366 million in lobster last year.

Qiyue was joined by representatives from the Bank of China, China Merchants Bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and a couple other Chinese financial institutions.
