Christmas fire levels flooring co. storage building

Grenier’s Classic Flooring in Waterville lost all of its supplies and equipment in a blaze on Christmas that officials said started from wood ash carelessly disposed.

The Morning Sentinel reported that the fire destroyed the company’s storage facility and an attached garage at 160 Drummond Ave. A house, owned by Robert Grenier, also sustained significant damage in the fire and is no longer habitable, the paper reported.

The Waterville Fire Department said in a press release that there were four other people in the home preparing Christmas dinner at the time of the fire and all escaped unharmed. Investigators found the fire started from a plastic bucket containing ash from a wood stove. The bucket was put in a shed attached to the building destroyed in the fire.
