More than 35,000 customers still without electricity

More than 35,000 electricity customers were still without power early Thursday as a result of ice storms across the state. The Kennebec Journal reported crews from Central Maine Power Co. and Bangor Hydro Electric Co. worked through the Christmas holiday to bring the total outages down from a high of more than 100,000 customers on Monday.

The highest concentration of outages was in Kennebec and Waldo counties. The paper reported that continuing snowfall today, bringing as much as 5 inches of snow to some parts of the state, could slow the effort to restore power.

Central Maine Power reported Thursday morning that approximately 25,700 customers were still without power, while Bangor Hydro Electric Co. reported around 9,400 continued outages.
