Cos. ready to move into G-P mill

Two companies will soon move into the former G-P mill in Old Town, Jack Cashman, senior economic advisor to the governor, said on Friday.

Cashman spoke to more than 40 area business and community leaders at the Old Town Economic Development Summit at the University of Maine, according to the Bangor Daily News. Cashman said Seldon Technologies Inc., of Vermont, and an as-yet-unnamed European firm intend to move into the mill now owned by Red Shield Environmental.

Seldon is a nanotechnology company that has developed a filter to remove microorganisms from fluid without heat, ultraviolet light or chemicals, and the European firm uses a new paper coating technology that is environmentally sensitive and uses less wood fiber, according to the paper. Cashman did not comment on the number of employees the two companies will hire, but the paper reported he said it would be significant.
