Dead River Co. sells convenience stores

Bangor-based energy company Dead River Co. is selling its 19 convenience stores to Circle K of Quebec.

Vice President Deanna Sherman said Dead River has decided to focus its attention on selling home heating fuels and installing heating units, according to the Bangor Daily News. Circle K of Laval, Quebec, is owned by Alimentation Couche-Tard. In 2008, the company signed a 20-year deal with New Brunswick-based Irving Oil Ltd. to operate 124 convenience stores in New England.

Circle K will offer jobs to many of the 300 Dead River store employees when the switchover happens in December.
