A Detroit, Maine-based manufacturer has been awarded a nearly $1 million contract from the U.S. Navy. Somatex Inc. received a $983,250 federal contract from the U.S Naval Facilities Engineering Command to maintain, repair and inspect overhead crane and hoist lifting equipment for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., according to the Bangor Daily News.

The one-year contract has a two-year option. President John Stuart said the company has had a working relationship with the Newport facility for seven years.

According to its website, Somatex manufactures and supplies cranes, crane components, beams and other materials-handling equipment across New England for customers like Verso Paper, General Electric and General Dynamics.
