An Ellsworth Internet service provider is suspected of shutting down without informing its customers.
Customers of Downeast.net, which is owned by Waterville-based Jordan Networks Inc., began losing Internet and email service on Nov. 26, according to the Ellsworth American. Downeast.net's local phone number has been disconnected, and its home page at www.downeast.net has been taken down. However, its "About" page, www.downeast.net/about/news.html, is still active, and displays a press release posted there in 2007 that says the company launched in Ellsworth in 1995, and sold its ISP service to Jordan Networks in 2007.
Calls to Downeast.net's 800 number customer service line connect to an automated message system for Arcus Digital, where there is no answer. Its website, www.arcusdigital.com, lists the company's address as 93 Main St. in Waterville, the same address listed for Jordan Networks on the Downeast.net website.
