East Boothbay boatbuilder builds toys for Toys for Tots

Hodgdon Yachts of East Boothbay has constructed nearly 150 toys to donate to Toys for Tots.

“Close to 90% of the workforce participated. We had as many as 13 to 21 people working at this every week,” Diane Hammond, the HR manager, told Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors.

Employees donated over 100 hours of time to build the toys, like a tugboat on wheels and a puffin push toy, in a revival of a company tradition from the 1990s. Other local businesses provided discounted materials.

The initiative comes during a busy time at the company, which last week launched two new tenders for a superyacht under construction in Germany, recently signed three new contracts for tenders, and is bidding on other proposals.
