First Serve Hospitality Group, a Kittery firm that has acquired and renovated several properties in southern Maine in recent years, is sprucing up its pizza restaurant, Spruce Creek Pizza.
The owners said the space was expanded because guests often requested a place to sit. When the Subway shop next door closed in 2024, that presented the opportunity to renovate and expand the space, Mary Pugliese, the director of operations for First Serve Hospitality Group, told Mainebiz At last, Spruce Creek Pizza customers would have a dedicated dining room.
The owners have expanded the space at 290 U.S. Route 1 in Kittery, which now includes a dining room, full Italian kitchen and a small market featuring Italian provisions.
The pizzeria and provisions shop share a yellow, ranch-style building. Inside, cherry wood walls are stacked with empty tomato cans and pizza boxes. There are vintage arcade machines and historic features like black-and-white tiled floors and a pressed-tin ceiling. Oversized order windows offer a full view of the kitchen, with pizza makers tossing dough and tending the oven.
The expanded shop offers an all-in-one stop for "authentic New York City-style Italian food, artisanal selections and pantry staples."
The market features Italian pantry staples, including grab-and-go meals, wines, craft beers, olive oil, dried pasta and cheeses. The restaurant offers a range of menu items, including various types of pizza, traditional New York-style pizza, pasta, cold and hot subs and desserts.
Spruce Creek Pizza is open daily, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
