Home sales jump 31% in July

Single-family home sales for July jumped nearly 31% over last year, according to the latest statistics from the Maine Real Estate Information System. This year, real estate agents in the state recorded sales of 1,426 single-family homes in July, up from 1,086 homes sold during the same month last year.

The latest numbers are in line with national growth in single-family home sales, though Maine’s year-over-year improvement outpaces both national and regional figures.

The National Association of Realtors reported a 16.4% increase in sales volume for single-family homes in July and sales in the Northeast rose 20.3%.

Bart Stevens, president of the Maine Association of Realtors, said in a prepared statement that inventory of homes for sale has remained steady throughout the summer as demand has grown among buyers.

The median sale price for Maine homes also increased in July, rising from $171,000 last July to $179,000 this year.
