Idexx buys Brazilian dairy, bovine testing co.

The Westbrook-based Idexx Laboratories has acquired a Brazilian company that specializes in dairy, bovine and food safety testing products. The terms of the sale were not disclosed.

In a press release, the company said it expects the acquisition of the Sao Paulo-based firm Madasa will add around $2 million in revenue through the end of the year. Idexx expects to generate between $1.37 billion and $1.38 billion in revenue this year.

The acquisition is Idexx’s first move into Brazil, where Chairman and CEO Jonathan Ayers says the company hopes to expand its business with diagnostic products for livestock, poultry, dairy and water. The company says all of Madasa’s employees will join Idexx and continue operating out of existing offices in Sao Paulo.
