Home sales, prices continue to rise

Maine home sales increased nearly 11% during the month of June, while the median sales price saw an uptick as well.

A total of 1,253 existing single-family homes were sold in June, a 10.6% rise compared with June 2009, according to the Maine Real Estate Information System Inc. The median sales price rose 2.9% to $175,000. Franklin County saw the biggest year-over-year jump, with the number of homes sold increasing from 66 to 109 and the median price rising nearly 38% to $123,000. Only Washington and Piscataquis counties saw a drop in home sales. In May, 1,090 homes were sold in the state.

Home sales nationwide rose 8.5% compared with June 2009, while the median price inched up 1.3% to $184,200.In the Northeast, home sales were up 17.1% in June, while the median sales price dropped 1.2% to $244,300.
