New hires

Bangor Savings Bank hired Paul Tormey as vice president and senior treasury and payment services officer. Tormey was previously a treasury management officer at TD Bank.

The Maine Heritage Policy Center in Portland hired Terry Brown as director of communications. Brown is a nationally published writer with 25 years of professional experience in corporate and political communications.

MaineGeneral in Augusta hired Amanda McDonough as a provider at MaineGeneral OB/GYN, Stephanie Joyce as a surgeon at MaineGeneral Surgery and Elaine Balutis and Michael MacKechnie as surgeons at MaineGeneral Orthopaedics.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine in Portland hired Rebecca Wright as director of development. Wright was previously as director of development for Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine.

Machias Savings Bank hired Timothy Goff as branch manager in Presque Isle, Matthew Jarrell as branch manager in Brewer and Rebecca Crane as mortgage specialist in Rockland.

Camden National Bank hired Melanie Wendell as vice president, mortgage loan officer and Kevin Boggs as mortgage loan officer in its residential lending department. Wendell was vice president, mortgage loan officer at Gorham Savings Bank while Boggs was a senior mortgage loan officer at Hampton Bay Mortgage Co.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, hired attorneys Hale Melnick and Alexander Porter as associates. Both Melnick and Porter previously served as summer associates at the firm.

The Maine Department of Labor in Augusta hired Nina McLaughlin as director of policy and legislative affairs. McLaughlin was previously communications director for the Maine GOP.

Central Maine Healthcare in Lewiston hired David Tupponce as executive vice president and president of Central Maine Medical Center, and Lynn Budlong as vice president of physician services. Tupponce was previously CEO of Paradise Valley Hospital, part of Tenet Healthcare's Abrazo Community Health Network, in Scottsdale, Ariz., while Budlong was most recently vice president, primary care and strategic business operations at Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, Mass.

Diversified Communications, an international media company in Portland, hired Alayna Hebert as a web developer and Steven Hughes as an IT operations manager. Hebert was previously with Concordia Partners while Hughes was with MEMIC.

Bristol Seafood in Portland hired Dana Bartholomew as vice president of sales. Bartholomew was previously with Ipswich Shellfish Group and Slade Gorton & Co.

Spectrum Healthcare Partners in South Portland hired Mark Chaput as executive director of clinical services and Ken Qualman as senior director of hospital services. Chaput most recently served as vice president for the orthopaedic-musculoskeletal service line at Anne Arundel Health System in Annapolis, Md. while Qualman was CEO at Western Nephrology in Wheat Ridge, Colo.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington hired Donald Dubois as hospitalist. Dubois has more than 30 years of patient care experience.

The Manufacturers Association of Maine hired Michael Doyon as consulting services coordinator for its business services division. Doyon has more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing encompassing the automation, semiconductor and metals technologies.

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay hired Deborah Bronk as president and CEO. Bronk is currently the Moses D. Nunnally distinguished professor of marine sciences and department chair at Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences.

SIS Bank in Sanford hired Christopher MacDonnell as vice president, cash management and treasury services. MacDonnell was previously senior vice president, treasury management at Bank of New Hampshire.

Gorham Savings Bank hired Diana Wheelock as vice president, director of human resources. Wheelock was most recently director of organizational development at Dead River Co.

Murray Plumb & Murray, a law firm in Portland, hired Elizabeth Hunt as partner. Hunt most recently worked at McLane Middleton in New Hampshire.

Rockport Granite hired Kathy Wagner as director of sales for its interiors department.

Crescendo Consulting Group in Portland hired Katelyn Michaud as a communications specialist. Michaud previously worked on health information technology projects under the Maine State Innovation Model grant and helped develop communications materials for behavioral health organizations.

Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty, a luxury property company in Portland, hired Susan Desgrosseilliers as a vice president in its Camden office.

Fontaine Family – The Real Estate Leader in Auburn hired Tim Cyr as broker in its Scarborough office.

Promotions

Camden National Bank promoted John Everett to director of commercial banking for the Southern Maine region. Everett, who has been with the bank since September 2016, has nearly 40 years of banking experience.

The Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce promoted Jessie Perkins to executive director. Perkins spent the last five years as the chamber's marketing and events manager.

Consumers for Affordable Health Care promoted Julia Underwood to interim executive director. Underwood was previously associate director of the organization.

Community Concepts Inc. in Lewiston promoted Glen Holmes to president of its subsidiary, Community Concepts Finance Corp. Holmes has been with the organization since 2012 and has more than 25 years of experience leading an array of for profit and not-for-profit organizations.

Penobscot Community Health Care in Bangor promoted Megan Sanders to vice president of human resources and general counsel. Sanders was vice president of human resources and associate general counsel.

SMRT Architects and Engineers in Portland elected Kenneth Costello as a principal of the firm. Costello leads the firm's site design group.

Crescendo Consulting Group in Portland promoted Scott Good to principal and director of research and Nate Kupel to director of digital marketing. Both Good and Kupel were previously senior consultants.

Appointments

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association in Portland elected Gary Vogel as vice president of its board. Vogel, a shareholder at the Portland law firm of Drummond Woodsum, also serves as chair of the association's public policy committee.

SIS Bank in Sanford said Blaine Boudreau was named to the Independent Community Bankers of America's federal delegate board for the term beginning March 17, 2018. Boudreau, president of SIS, will serve on the board for the fourth time.

The Maine Municipal Association elected Linda Cohen as president and Mary Sabins as vice president of its executive committee. Cohen is a South Portland City Councilor and Sabins is town manager in Vassalboro.

Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Lewiston added Michael Martel and Mary-Anne Ponti to its board of directors. Martel is the market director of Main Street East while Ponti is senior vice president, system chief nurse executive for Central Maine Healthcare.

Thompson Bowie & Hatch, a law firm in Portland, announced that attorney Sarah Yantakosol Gayer was appointed chair of the American Bar Association's Admiralty and Maritime Law Committee.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree was selected as an ex-officio member of the National Council on the Arts, which advises the National Endowment for the Arts on its grant programs and other priorities.

Achievements

The Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce selected the 2018 recipients of its annual awards. Jean Deighan of Deighan Wealth Advisors was honored with the chamber's highest honor, the “Norbert X. Dowd Award.” Dysarts was named the “Business of the Year Award” winner. Susan Hunter, president of the University of Maine, captured the “Catherine Lebowitz Award for Public Service.” The “M. Jane Irving Community Service Award” went to Bangor Housing Authority. The “Nonprofit of the Year Award” was presented to Penquis. Stephen Rich, retired president and CEO of WBRC Architects/Engineers, was selected as the “Arthur Comstock Professional Service Award” winner. The Bion & Dorain Foster Entrepreneurship Award went to Adam Moskovitz, CEO of ANM Properties. Finally, Kathleen Shane from Down East Rental in Brewer was chosen as “Chamber Volunteer of the Year.”

Coastal Enterprises Inc. in Brunswick said that the venture capital fund, Coastal Ventures IV Limited Partnership, established by its for-profit venture capital subsidiary CEI Ventures Inc., was been certified by the U.S. Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, said that Bryan Dench, Rebecca Webber and Stephen Wade were named to the 2017 New England Super Lawyers list. Dench, chairman of the board of directors of the firm, was selected in the business and corporate categories; Webber, a shareholder, in employment and labor; and Wade, a shareholder, in personal injury general, plaintiff.

The National Association of Plan Advisors named Lebel & Harriman LLP in Falmouth as one of the top retirement plan advisory firms in the nation.

The Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association in Augusta selected Michaud Distributors and its Snyder's-Lance site in Saco as its “2017 Associate of the Year;” Ricker Hill Orchards in Turner its “2017 Producer of the Year;” and Country Farms Market in Easton and Washburn its “2017 Grocer of the Year.”

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, announced Amy Dieterich and Braden Clement were selected to the 2017 New England Rising Stars list. Dieterich was recognized in the area of business litigation and Clement in the areas of general litigation and personal injury.

Shaheen & Gordon PA said 11 of its attorneys were selected to the 2017 Super Lawyers listing including Saco-based attorneys Peter Schroeter in alternative dispute resolution and Randall Smith in personal injury medical malpractice-plaintiffs.

Kathy Littlefield received the “Ethel N. Kelley Memorial Award,” recognizing community service, from the Maine Municipal Association. Littlefield has been a Waldo Selectman for 45 years.

Modern Pest Services in Brunswick announced that Training Manager Paul Lavallee was awarded certification as an Associate Certified Entomologist by the Entomological Society of America Certification Corp.

The American Lung Association in Maine named U.S. Sen. Susan Collins its “The Rose Huddilston Award” winner.

The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District honored Steve and Diana Hobart with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for their work in natural resource conservation, protection and education. The Hobarts operate Breakneck Ridge Farm in Blanchard.

Clare Warden, managing partner at LongHorn Steakhouse in South Portland, achieved parent company Darden Restaurants' Diamond Club status. Warden was one of 25 nationally to receive the honor.

Infinity Federal Credit Union in Westbrook was listed No. 15 by Credit Union Journal, a national publication, in its “Best Credit Unions to Work For” list. The credit union was No. 3 in its asset category, credit unions with more than $200 million but less than $500 million in assets. In addition, the credit union announced Ryan Wing, director of information, technology and facilities, was selected as one of 16 credit union executives to the Filene Research Institute's i3 program, which fosters the development of new ideas and innovations for credit unions.

GHM Insurance in Waterville said that Martha Wentworth earned the designation of Certified Risk Manager from Certified Risk Managers International.

Portland Water District announced that Wastewater Services Director Scott Firmin received the “2017 Lee Agger Award” from the Maine Joint Environmental Training Coordinating Committee and the organization captured a Department of Environmental Protection's “Certificate of Achievement Award.”

Nathaniel Adam of Boothbay Harbor Country Club was selected as “Maine's Lobster Chef of the Year 2017” while Stephen Richards of Boothbay Harbor Inn was the “People's Choice Winner” at Harvest on the Harbor in Portland.

The Penobscot Co., a general contractor in Rockport, announced that Wes Pooler was recognized as “Engineer of the Year” by the New England Healthcare Engineers' Society. Pooler is vice president of the company.

Rudman Winchell, Counselors at Law in Bangor announced that David King, Frank McGuire, Edmond Bearor and Anne-Marie Storey were recognized as New England Super Lawyers for 2017 and attorneys Allison Economy, Jonathan Bench and Joshua Randlett were listed as New England Rising Stars.

U.S. Rep Chellie Pingree received a “2017 Leadership Award” from the James Beard Foundation for her work on national food system reform.

Meesha Bodman, a member of the personal insurance team at Allen Insurance and Financial in Rockland, was named “Young Insurance Professional of the Year” by the Maine Insurance Agents Association.

Portland Monthly was recognized with seven prizes at the American Graphic Design Awards for design excellence by Graphic Design USA.

Maine Medical Partners in Portland received the “HPV Vaccine Is Cancer Prevention Champion Award” for outstanding efforts to promote HPV vaccine in pediatric practices. Maine Medical Partners – Pediatrics was recognized as No. 1 in the region that includes all of New England and the state of New York for HPV immunization rates and was ranked No. 1 in Maine.

Amica Insurance in South Portland received the “Highest Customer Satisfaction Among National Homeowners Insurers” ranking in the J.D. Power 2017 U.S. Home Insurance Study for the 16th straight year.

InVEST awarded John Mayo, business management instructor at Lake Region Vocational Center in Naples, its “2017 InVEST Teacher of the Year Award” and Dottie Chalmers-Cutter, vice president of operations for Chalmers Insurance Group in Bridgton, its “2017 Volunteer of the Year Award.”

The Maine Health Access Foundation in Augusta named Christine Hastedt, public policy director at Maine Equal Justice Partners, as its first “Dr. Wendy J. Wolf Health Leadership Award” recipient. The award includes $10,000 for Maine Equal Justice Partners, an organization that Hastedt helped to found in 1996.
