New hires

Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty, a luxury property company in Portland, announced that Randal Simon and Rosane Hirschy joined its Kennebunk office.

The Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth hired Kassandra Strout as grants administrator. Strout was content specialist at Breaking Even Communications.

CD&M Communications in Portland hired Michelle McNickle as digital project and account director. McNickle was previously with Diversified Communications.

Broadreach Public Relations, a strategic communications agency in Portland, hired Dana Lundy as operations officer. Lundy previously served as executive director of the New England Head Start Program.

The city of Auburn hired Phillip Crowell Jr. as assistant city manager. Crowell was previously Auburn's chief of police.

Eastern Maine Development Corp. in Bangor hired Lee Umphrey as CEO. Umphrey was CEO of Harrington Family Health Center in Harrington.

MaineGeneral's Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta hired Ridhi Gupta as a medical oncologist and D.B. Nguyen a radiation oncologist. Gupta is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with a specialty certification in medical oncology and hematology while Nguyen is certified by the American Board of Radiology.

Tranzon Auction Properties in Portland hired Ruth Ludwig Lind as a sales associate. A licensed Maine real estate sales agent, Lind was previously president of OTR Properties.

Sunday River Resort in Newry hired Karolyn Castaldo as director of communications. Castaldo was communications and marketing manager for Ski New Hampshire.

The Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services in Augusta hired Sarah Sherman as director of strategic partnerships. Sherman has worked the last several years in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties as a legal advocate for domestic violence victims.

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution hired Andrew Kany as a loan officer in Biddeford and Carmen LaCount as a customer relationship officer.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree hired Omar Andrews, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, as a constituent services representative. Andrews, who joined Pingree's Portland office through a two-year Wounded Warrior Fellowship, will focus on meeting the unique needs of veterans and service members throughout Maine's First Congressional District.

Thos. Moser, maker of handcrafted American furniture in Auburn, hired Brad Kauffman as chief revenue officer. Kauffman was formerly senior vice president of business transformation and strategy at L.L.Bean.

Machias Savings Bank hired Kristen Keith as a mortgage specialist in Brewer and Shawn Leger as a vice president, business banker in Portland.

Down East magazine in Rockport hired Jennifer Van Allen as branded content editor. Van Allen, who has written for Mainebiz, has 20 years of experience writing for newspapers, magazines and digital channels.

The Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design in Arundel hired Richard Downs-Honey as president.Downs-Honey is a former partner and CEO of High Modulus, a firm in New Zealand specializing in engineering consulting services and a supplier of composite materials to the marine industry and other industrial clients.

Right Now Fitness in Westbrook hired Dan Baker as a certified personal trainer. Baker is certified by the American Council on Exercise and carries additional certifications in Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED.

Epstein & O'Donovan LLP, a law firm in Portland, hired Danielle Hansen as an associate attorney.

Promotions

HNTB Corp., an employee-owned infrastructure solutions firm in Portland, promoted Paul Godfrey to Maine office leader serving the firm's clients in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Godfrey was most recently manager of transportation planning and traffic engineering and also served as operations manager.

EMHS in Brewer promoted Steven Berkowitz to senior vice president and chief physician executive.Berkowitz was previously interim chief physician executive.

Skowhegan Savings promoted Jack Ducharme to vice president regional community banker for Somerset County. Ducharme most recently was a community banker primarily serving the Madison, Bingham and Jackman areas.

University of Southern Maine promoted Ainsley Wallace to president and CEO of the USM Foundation and Jeanne Paquette to vice president of corporate engagement. Wallace previously served in a dual role as USM's vice president of corporate engagement and the foundation's vice president while was executive director of auxiliary services.

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution promoted Allison Graham to vice president, Stephanie Paquet to audit manager, Kevin Gwinn to deposit support manager, Rory Timmins to customer relationship officer in Biddeford, Stephanie Bailey to assistant branch manager in Westbrook, Katrina Desjardins to assistant branch manager in Old Orchard Beach and Lesley Andersen to information technology specialist.

Appointments

The Maine Women's Fund in Falmouth elected Noreen Alvarado Patient, a partner at Eaton Peabody, as president of its board; Janice Rogers, corporate vice president of human resources at Diversified Communications, vice president; Melissa Duffy, managing partner and director at Wilkes-Duffy, Hightower Advisors, treasurer; and Candace Walworth, retired nephrologist, secretary. The organization also added Aga Asbury, a senior immigration attorney at FordMurrayDevin Cook, co-founder and executive producer of the MIT IDE Inclusive Innovation ChallengeDeqa Dhalac, intercultural program manager at the Center for Grieving Children; and Arabella Perez, a clinical social work professor and trauma informed certificate coordinator at the University of New England, to its board.

The Pet Professional Guild appointed Don Hanson of Green Acres Kennel Shop in Bangor as a regional coordinator for its Shock-Free Coalition, a global advocacy campaign which aims to end the practice of administering electric shock to train, manage and care for pets.

Town & Country Federal Credit Union in South Portland announced the election of the organization's board officers including Jane Torres, membership director for Portland Country Club, chair; Josh Fifield, senior account executive with Clark Insurance Co., vice chair; Anne Connolly, an employee benefits consultant with Benefits Concepts to Completion, secretary; and Paul Chamberlain, former CFO with Alpha One, treasurer. Fontaine Team of Fontaine Family – The Real Estate Leader in Auburn was named one of America's top real estate professional teams by REAL Trends. The firm was also selected as a member of the “The Thousand Top Real Estate Professionals,” ranked in the top 1% of the more than 1.3 million Realtors nationwide.

Scenic Flights of Acadia in Mount Desert Island said it was added to the “Trip Advisor Hall of Fame” for receiving a Certificate of Excellence for five consecutive years.

Southern Maine Agency on Aging announced an article about its work with Maine Medical Center in providing home delivered meals to patients post discharge from the hospital called “Simply Delivered Meals: A Tale of Collaboration” appeared in the American Journal of Managed Care. The lead author on the article is Sarah Martin, an epidemiologist who has been affiliated with Husson University.

Bartlettyarns in Harmony recently joined President Donald J. Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, members of the Trump administration and White House staff for a Made in America Product Showcase.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins received the “JDRF Trailblazer Award” for her efforts to increase funding for diabetes research and treatment.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, was recognized as one of the Top 10 law firms in the country for gender equality by the National Law Journal in the 2018 “NLJ 500 Women's Scorecard.” The journal also ranked the firm as a top law firm for women in last year's Scorecard. At the end of 2017, nearly 38% of the attorneys at the firm were women and 40% of the firm's equity partners were female, surpassing national averages for firms its size by approximately 3% and 20%, respectively.

Green Acres Kennel Shop in Bangor was voted the Bangor region's “Best Kennel” for the 17th consecutive year in a survey conducted by Market Surveys of America and the GKM Independent Survey Co. The kennel was also voted the Bangor Region's Best Pet Store for the 12th year in a row, the Best Dog Trainer for the seventh consecutive year and the Best Pet Groomer for the sixth year-in-a-row.

The Portland Water District said it was awarded the “Distinguished Budget Presentation” award from the Government Finance Officers Association. The award reflects a commitment to the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

Sam Clockedile, marketing and advertising specialist at Katahdin Trust in Houlton, was awarded the Certified Financial Marketing Professional certification from the American Bankers Association.

Richard Biffle, professor of education at Thomas College in Waterville, had a chapter included in a new book, “Effective Teaching; Educators Perspective of Meaning Making in Higher Education,” edited by Shelley Harris, Texas A&M University.

Adam Dunbar, first vice president of investments at Wells Fargo Advisors in Portland, was recognized as a “2018 Top Next Generation Advisor” by Forbes. Dunbar has 14 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Cushman Creative, a design agency specializing in health science marketing in Port Clyde, was honored with a “2018 Platinum Hermes Creative Award” for the infographics featured in its Kelp-Beds blog as well as an honorable mention for its logo identity work for the Maine Coast Fisherman's Association.

The Boothbay Harbor Country Club was named one of the “Most Beautiful Clubhouses in America” by Architectural Digest.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough announced that, for the past two year period, it has met or exceeded national benchmarks reported on the Hospice Compare website. The website was launched last year by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to help the public make decisions about hospice agencies by comparing nationally reported data about the quality of care and family satisfaction.
