Stevens & Day LLP, a law firm in Augusta, hired Laura Pioch as an associate. Pioch was previously a helpline attorney with Legal Services for the Elderly in Augusta.

Dawson, Smith, Purvis & Bassett, an accounting and business advisory firm in Portland, hired Carmen Rae and Taylor St. Amand.

The UCU Wealth Management program, located at University Credit Union in Orono, hired Patricia Freiwald as a financial advisor. Freiwald has 15 years of experience in the financial industry.

Otelco Inc., a telecommunications provider New Gloucester, hired Richard Clark as COO. Clark was previously executive vice president and CFO of TVC Albany Inc., doing business as FirstLight Fiber, in Albany, N.Y.

Portland Parks Conservancy hired Nan Cumming as executive director. Cumming was director of institutional advancement at Maine Historical Society.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, hired Benjamin Dexter, Letson Douglass, Nicholas Higgins and Patrick Marass as associates. Dexter joined the firm's litigation and dispute resolution practice group, Douglass the energy and environmental practice group, Higgins the business practice group and Marass the litigation and dispute resolution and energy and environmental practice groups.

Newcastle Realty in Damariscotta hired Kirsten Ingram as an associate broker.

The city of Auburn hired Marc Gosselin as director of its new Recreation & Sports Facilities Department. Gosselin was previously with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League.

Drake Inglesi Milardo Inc., a human resources consulting firm in Portland, hired Holly Smevog as vice president.

Final Draft CAD LLC, a BIM and CAD consulting firm in Portland, hired Tim Estabrook as a BIM/CAD technician in support of modeling and design within AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks. Estabrook was previously with Estabrook Yacht Design.

Promotions

Katahdin Trust in Houlton promoted Sam Clockedile to marketing officer. Clockedile most recently served as marketing and advertising specialist.

The city of Auburn promoted Sabrina Best to deputy director of its new Recreation & Sports Facilities Department. Best was previously recreation director.

CLYNK, a bottle redemption and recycling-services company in South Portland, promoted Alison Vanderhoof to president and CEO. Vanderhoof was previously president.

Albin, Randall & Bennett CPAs, an accounting firm in Portland, promoted Shannon Brown to manager. Brown was previously a staff accountant.

Appointments

The Manufacturers Association of Maine added Phil Roland, AQUEST Corp.; Brian Deveaux, Hussey Seating; Dave Fortin, Masters Machine; Aaron Crawford, Sabre Yachts; Kim Davis, Tambrands, a division of Procter and Gamble; and Judith Borelli, Texas Instruments, to its board.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, selected shareholders Peter Herzog and Kai McGintee to serve as co-chairs of the firm's labor and employment practice group.

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association in Portland added Rick Flagg to its board of directors. Flagg is regional vice president of commercial lending for Norway Savings Bank.

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, announced that eight of its Maine-based attorneys were named “Super Lawyers” in the 2018 “New England Super Lawyers” list and another 10 Maine-based attorneys were selected as “Rising Stars.”

Community Health Options in Lewiston was one of 23 national recipients of the “American Psychological Association's Psychologically Healthy Workplace Honors.” The winners include nonprofit, for-profit and governmental institutions of all sizes that put forth outstanding efforts to foster employee health and well-being while enhancing organizational performance.

Stage Neck Inn in York Harbor received a 2018 AAA “Inspectors' Best Housekeeping Award” and an “Inspectors' Best Locations Award.”

GrowSmart Maine announced its inaugural Smart Growth Awards with 502 Deering Center in Portland recognized as its “Outstanding Project.” Other winners: “Outstanding Project,” Bill & Joan Alfond Main Street Commons, Colby College, Waterville; “Outstanding Public Policy: 21st Century Downtown Zoning,” Windham Town Council; “Outstanding Smart Growth Plan,” Portland Housing Authority Strategic Vision; “Outstanding Smart Growth Plan,” Franklin Street Redesign, city of Portland's Public Works/Planning & Urban Development Departments; and “Lifetime Achievement Award,” Contributions to Land Use Planning in Maine, Brian Kent.

Albin, Randall & Bennett CPAs, an accounting firm in Portland, said Karla Brannen, tax manager, was named as one of three recipients of the 2018 Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants' “Women to Watch Award.”

Natural Resources Council of Maine named its “2018 Conservation Leadership Award” winners including “Lifetime Achievement Award,” Horace Hildreth and “People's Choice Award,” Robin Robinson. In addition, Sandy and Ole Jaeger and Bill Mook were recognized for their efforts to safeguard Maine's environment.

Maine Small Business Development Centers announced earned full accreditation from the America's Small Business Development Centers, the national accrediting body for the Small Business Development Centers under contract from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough said that Laurl Matey, Keirsten Littlefield and Abigail Adams received the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium training. Matey is clinical services director, Littlefield is Gosnell House manager and Adams is clinical educator.

FUSION:Bangor recognized Tanya Emery, director of community and economic development for the city of Bangor, with its “Leadership and Vision Award.”

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland recognized Murray Plumb & Murray attorney John Shumadine with the “Spirit of Humanity Award” at its Raise the Roof dinner.

Courtney Pladsen, a nurse practitioner at Greater Portland Health, was selected to participate in Culture of Health Leaders, one of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation leadership development programs that equip and connect leaders across the country to collaborate in addressing systemic inequities and finding new solutions to the nation's most entrenched health challenges.

NFI North Inc. presented Audrey Huot with its “Individual Spirit of the Community Award.” Huot is office manager at Bridge Crossing and Dodge House School in Bridgton.

Maine Development Foundation recognized Charlotte Mace, executive director of Biobased Maine, with its “Champion of Economic Development for Innovation Award.”

The U.S. Small Business Administration recently held a graduation ceremony for CEOs of Maine's first Emerging Leaders class. Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Lewiston named Hardy, Wolf, and Downing, a law firm in Lewiston, as its “1967 Commitment to Justice Award” recipient and Sheldon Tepler, a partner at Hardy, Wolf, and Downing, its individual “Pro Bono Award” winner.

AARP Maine selected Edwin Wright, a hunger prevention activist, as the winner of the “2018 Andrus Award.” The award celebrates and honors individuals who make a difference in the lives of others, and it is the most prestigious and visible award AARP can present to an individual.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, presented its quarterly “Geiger Star Awards” to Gloria Arita and Louise Michaud. Arita is a help desk specialist while Michaud is executive support and corporate events manager.

Maine State Chamber of Commerce presented John Leonard with its “Alton 'Chuck' Cianchette Business Hall of Fame Award.” Leonard was honored for his leadership and contributions to Maine, including during his 24-year tenure as president and CEO of MEMIC Group.

Megan Williams, executive director of United Midcoast Charities in Camden, earned a certificate in nonprofit management through the Maine Association of Nonprofits in partnership with MindEdge Learning.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington announced that Infection Control Practitioner Pam Hadley earned the Certified in Infection Control credential and that Rhonda Pierce, an oncology nurse, earned the Oncology Certified Nurse credential from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corp.

The Manufacturers Association of Maine recognized Steve Boulet, Auburn Manufacturing, and Tim Hussey, Hussey Seating, as members of its 2018 Hall of Fame class. The association also presented “Above and Beyond” awards to Kelli Deveaux and Nicole Sturgis of Westbrook High School.
