LePage closes state offices due to snowstorm

Gov. Paul LePage closed all state offices today in response to a major winter storm that is expected to drop up to two feet of snow on some parts of Maine.

Maine Public Broadcasting Network reported that state offices are expected to open on schedule on Friday.

In other storm-related news, MPBN reported the speed limit along the entire length of the Maine Turnpike Authority has been reduced to 45 miles per hour at the request of state police.

Electric utilities are preparing for power outages due to gusty winds and heavy snow, although neither Central Maine Power nor Bangor Hydro Electric Co. reported any outages as of late Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service reported that the highest snowfall totals should occur in the foothills of western Maine and into central portions of Maine, with south and east-facing slopes of mountains expected to see more than a foot of snow.
