Power delivery rates on the rise
Electricity prices will rise for Central Maine Power Co. and Bangor Hydro Electric Co. customers because of increases in electricity delivery rates. The Maine Public Utilities Commission has approved the new rates, effective July 1.
Delivery rates include distribution and transmission costs for all CMP and BHE customers and do not affect electricity supply prices. Delivery rates will rise an average of 7.1% for CMP customers and 4.5% for BHE customers, according to a press release.
PUC Chairman Thomas Welch said the increases reflect an overall rise in federally regulated transmission rates for both companies. The companies must pay more in transmission rates to help cover the cost of current and future transmission reliability upgrades in the New England region.
