Two Maine companies have been named to a list of the best 100 building-related firms in the country based on their 2011 revenues. Pittsfield-based Cianbro Corp. ranked No. 88 on Engineering News-Record's list of contractors, while Portland engineering company Woodard & Curran ranked No. 91 on a list of design firms, according to the Bangor Daily News.
Engineering News-Record publishes a weekly magazine with news and data on the construction industry, according to its website. Cianbro's construction division had $570 million in revenues in 2011, CEO Peter Vigue told the Daily News. The company ranked 169 in 2010. He attributed its revenue growth in 2011 in part to its late 2010 acquisition of Texas-based Starcon International Inc., a move he says grew revenues by 20%. It has about 4,000 employees.
With 2011 revenue of $119.7 million in 2011, Woodard & Curran climbed 17 spots over 2010. The company has 650 employees, according to the paper. CEO Douglas McKeown said the company has grown its design-build work and expanded other services.
