Log home maker freezes production

A log home manufacturer in Kenduskeag will furlough a dozen production facility employees in January and part of February.

Northeastern Log Homes will temporarily shut down its plant, owner Jonathan French told the Bangor Daily News Monday, to accommodate the slowdown in the housing industry. The company's sales offices in Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine will remain open.

This is the first time since Northeastern Log Homes was founded in 1972 that the company has had to shut down, the paper reported. French said the furloughed employees were told about the shutdown two weeks ago, to allow them to prepare, and that they should be eligible to receive unemployment benefits.
