Madawaska gets $250K to prep for Acadian Congress

The town of Madawaska will receive $250,000 in federal money to promote tourism and economic development in the region in advance of the 2014 World Acadian Congress set to take place in the region.

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud on Monday announced the award, from the Northern Border Regional Commission, that will be directed at communities in the St. John Valley to expand recreational facilities in Madawaska, St. Agatha and Frenchville.

The federal funds will be matched with state and local investments that total $692,512 in anticipation of the 2014 event.
