The Maine Center for Entrepreneurs has expanded its staff to strengthen the organization’s leadership in finance and operations.
Eric Waters joins MCE as chief financial officer. He will lead finance operations and contribute to ongoing organizational improvements and infrastructure development.
Waters has held senior and executive leadership roles across health care, nonprofit and for-profit sectors, including positions as operating vice president at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and chief operating officer at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Waters retired in 2021 and has since served on numerous boards.
"The health of the Maine economy has been of great interest to me," Waters told Mainebiz. "It was also a critical part of my career in Maine that goes back almost 20 years, and I have worked with the Maine Center for Entrepreneurs and other economic development organizations in my COO and CFO roles while in Maine. I am very grateful for the opportunity to combine my financial and operations experience to support their important mission."
Waters received his bachelor's degree in management from Binghamton University School of Management and his MBA in finance from Rutgers Graduate School of Management.
Elissa Pike English has expanded her role with the organization as an integrated marketing, systems and operations specialist.
She will oversee internal systems and operational improvements, in addition to leading marketing efforts and managing strategic partnerships.
English has experience in hospitality, tourism and nonprofit sectors. She has held roles at Southern Maine Community College, Pike & Co. Consulting, Northern Hospitality and Visit Portland.
English received her bachelor's degree in business administration from Florida Southern College and her MBA from Husson University. She also holds a project management professional certification from the Project Management Institute.
Founded in 1997, MCE is an independent nonprofit based in Portland that helps Maine companies launch and grow through training, connections and hands-on support from over 250 volunteer advisors and business mentors.
