Maine home sales increase 22.7% in November

The Maine Association of Realtors reported Tuesday that November home sales in Maine were up 22.7% compared to the same period a year ago.

Sales prices also continued their upward trend, with the median sales price for the state rising 4.35% to $180,000 compared to November 2014, the association reported in a press release.

By comparison, the National Association of Realtors reported a 4.6% dip in single-family existing home sales nationwide, while the national median sales price increased 6.6% to $221,600 in November.

Regionally, sales in the Northeast were up 1.5% from a year ago and the regional median sales price of $254,800 represents a 3.2% rise.

“The mild weather and threats of rising interest rates certainly have had some impact on buyer decisions,” Marie Flaherty, president of the Maine Association of Realtors, said in the release. “However, pent-up demand has had the biggest effect.”
