Maine home sales slow in April

Sales of existing single-family homes slowed in April, but that didn’t stop the median sales price from seeing a larger increase.

Maine home sales reached 1,032 units in April, a 1.67% increase over the 1,015 units sold in the same month last year, according to the Maine Realtors Association. That’s a slower pace than March, when sales volume grew by 6.5%. On the other hand, the median sales price last month increased 5.33% to $178,000, a larger increase than the past two months.

“Many sellers are realistically pricing their homes; Realtors advise that appropriate pricing is a major component of success in the market,” Marie Flaherty, president of the Maine Association of Realtors, said in a prepared statement. “Pricing, combined with great presentation, is a winning combination.”

On a national level, home sales increased 6.5%, while the median sales price increased 10% to $221,200 during the same period, according to the National Association of Realtors. Sales in the Northeast increased 1.6%, while the median sales price increased 3.6% to $253,200.
