Maine may be known as a place of collaboration, but certain professions are downright mean as shown in a new national survey of 3,000 working employees.
To find out what jobs are the most ruthless, researchers at YourFreeCareerTest.com asked, “How far would you go to climb the career ladder?"
In Maine, engineering was deemed to be the “most cut-throat” career — a profession where “precision matters, deadlines are brutal and advancement often hinges on outthinking your peers in highly technical turf,” researchers noted.
Next on the meanest list were legal profession and health care, at No. 2 and 3, respectively, followed by — gulp! — real estate and finance.
The survey didn’t just explore personal behaviors, it also asked self-identified ruthless workers to name their industry.
In other parts of the country, New York’s most ruthless workers overwhelmingly came from finance while California’s meanies work in technology.
On a more positive note, 14% said they value loyalty over climbing the corporate ladder while 14% said they’re not ambitious but just want peace.
