New Bathport project revived

A Portland-based broker has taken over a stalled project for a commercial development in downtown Bath.

J. Lee Nelson of Fishman Realty Group is working with property owners John Hall and Edwin Rogers to revive the New Bathport project, with the hopes of attracting a developer to turn the 80,000-square-foot, $1.8 million waterfront property into a hotel, retirement community or high-end office space, according to The Times Record in Brunswick. First proposed in 2005, the controversial New Bathport project originally included high-end condo buildings, but that project fizzled last year as the market for luxury condos faltered.

Nelson said he is looking to change the focus of the project to something with more marketable uses, and he plans to apply for grant money to rehabilitate the site's current office building, according to the paper.
